Tong Engineering, the UK’s leading designer and manufacturer of quality vegetable handling equipment will be showcasing a new custom-built mobile handling system, and revealing its new branding at this year’s Cereals show.
The custom-built mobile system has been commissioned for Elveden Farms in Thetford, and is based on Tong’s FieldLoader machine. It will be used by Elveden predominantly for use on onions and carrots but is also suitable for use on potatoes. It has been specifically designed so it can be used in two parts – as a Storemaker-style machine comprising of hopper, coils and end cross conveyor, or as a FieldLoader, with the addition of the second chassis, incorporating a ‘bit remover’, inspection table, and EasyLoad extending elevator.
“Elveden Farms approached Tong Engineering with a requirement to handle their post-harvest onion and carrot crop more efficiently,” explains Charlie Rich, Export Sales Manager at Tong Engineering. “Once they have received delivery of the machine after its showcase at Cereals, Elveden will use the mobile system in its Storemaker format for handling their onion crop into store, alongside new Tong stand-alone duo conveyors and an additional EasyLoad elevator. The machine will be used in its complete FieldLoader format for handling carrots. The bit remover is an integral part of the custom-built design of the machine, ensuring effective removal of carrot crowns and other small waste from the crop when used during their busy carrot season.”
Visitors to stand 202 will also see the changes to the company’s branding for the first time as Tong Peal reverts to Tong Engineering.
2015 is the family business’ 85th anniversary, and also marks over ten years since Tong Engineering took over Peal Engineering. Edward Tong says: “The registered company name has always remained Tong Engineering Ltd. Tong Peal has been our trading name, particularly in the early days to make it clear that we continued to manufacture and supply parts and products that would have been available from Peal Engineering. After ten years we feel it is the ideal time to return to trading as Tong Engineering. The business has grown significantly and we have built a strong reputation over the years. We want to build on this further and feel that going back to our well-known Tong roots is right for the next chapter of the business.
“We are excited for our first event with our new Tong Engineering branding, and look forward to seeing customers old and new to discuss our latest range of advanced and intelligent grading and handling equipment.”
